(If you have any suggestions to help me improve my art policy, please let me know!)

Certain restrictions to my art are void if you have contacted me and I have told you otherwise. If that is the case, I will provide a legal release form for us both to fill out. OR if you have commissioned a piece from me, you may do what you wish with that piece (though I appreciate being notified).

My art is protected under the Creative Commons License 3.0 (details: [link]).

You may use my work under the conditions specified in the above link, and as follows.
"You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor" -- ALWAYS always contact me before using my art. Note me through DeviantArt, or email me at feathermyth@gmail.com.
"You may not use this work for commercial purposes." -- You may not sell/profit from my art in any way shape or form. I will never allow this.
"You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work." -- Do not crop the art. Do not remove any watermarks. Do not built upon the art in any way.

My art is not Stock.

As stated above, in my Creative Commons License I do not allow my work to be altered, transformed, or built upon. Do not use my art for photo-manipulations, referencing, or tracing. Do not use my art for avatars, icons, or layouts. My art is not free for public use.

Never claim my art as your own.
I put quite a lot of time into my work. Claiming my art as your own is a high offense, not to mention criminal. I obtain all rights to my images under the Berne Convention. They are all copyrighted and protected under copyright laws.

Credit me.
IF I allow you to use my artwork, be it off site or otherwise, please provide credit. Somewhere in a description or directly under the image, link back to my DA page like this: ©CricketWings.deviantart.com

`Dianae has a great page written up regarding art theft. [link] She provides a lot of information, including a list of DA users who can translate foreign pages! It's very helpful.
Here's a summery/quotes of some great points she made:

ART THEFT IS NOT ADVERTISEMENT. If you think you're quite unknown and you're happy to find your art somewhere, you're wrong ! This would only cause you troubles AND would encourage thieves to keep on stealing other artists' art.

If someone steals your art, it means he/she liked it enough to do so and maybe even needed it.
Remember you DON'T need these people to promote your art but they need YOU. They could pay for your art but they prefer stealing since they are almost never penalized.

Additional Information

The Berne Convention protects your artist rights. As long as you've created an artwork, it's YOURS. No need to submit it to copyright registration or anything else. Something you've created is automatically ©you.

As long as you know your rights, you can fully explain what's wrong when you find a stolen picture.

Have you heard about the "Orphan Works" bill ? If not, you should really do a quick Google search. The law has been rejected, but it comes back quite often and it may be adopted in the near future.

This could be really bad if used in the wrong way, since damages paid don't really cover the prejudice caused.

Please Understand

Much as I would love to be able to let the world use my art for free, I can't. It takes a lot of time for me to create a piece. As of now it is my only source of income.

To commissioners: If you fear the image you've bought from me being stolen, please let me know and I will not upload it to DeviantArt. Instead, I will email you the image at a viewable size as well as the full resolution. Thanks
