Here is a basic technique that I use to shade.
Something I forgot to point out: the more detailed you get with something, the smaller your brush should be :)

Oh and excuse the crap horse head at the bottom. Did that in 5 minutes?

This is a great tutorial, and I don't have that blender brush o__o
I should install adobe cs first though haha I'm still with the old version because I can't let go.

I never pay attention to the light source which is very stupid really, I hope this inspired me to do so in the future :)
